Event that had the biggest impact on your life last year: Participating in the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship BizCamp (NFTE) at Columbia University shed light to what my true passion is and what I want to pursue in the future. In just two weeks, I discovered that my heart lies in a courtroom, prosecuting criminals.
Target Colleges: Georgetown, Harvard, Notre Dame, Brown, Yale, etc.
Major and Career Goal: Double Major in Psychology and Philosophy; Criminal Justice Lawyer.
Biggest Adversity Faced: Coming from a low income family, I was faced with the fear of my financial ability to attend some of the top schools. Also, being that I’ve never been away from my family for long periods of time, how would my family deal knowing I could possibly be miles and miles away.

My name is Queen Adesuyi and I am excited to share my experiences with REACH students and the REACH community as a whole! I am enthusiastic because I have met so many influential people and participated in so many programs that have affected my college research and application process and it is my pleasure to express them to my peers. The college process may seem intimidating but essentially, “if there is a will – there is a way.” Currently I am narrowing down the colleges on my list and figuring out why each college would be a good pick for me. I am also writing my college essay, polishing my resume, and recognizing what college applications want from me. This blogging opportunity will be taken full advantage of on my part so stay tuned for my blog and the insight I have to offer!

Post II: 2/5/11

This is my first update and it’s been a month. This is a crucial time because it is the time to (if you haven’t already) look into summer enrichment programs and also apply for the SAT, ACT, and SAT II’s.

So it is recommended that everyone should do a summer enrichment program because it will help you gain leadership skills and it will separate you from people who choose to waste two months. It will also help embellish your resume which is always good :) . I chose to be on the Georgetown University campus this summer doing a Law Institute but I ran into money problems. Never let money be an issue! If you run into this problem, fund raise and reach out to everyone you know for assistance. Don’t be discouraged because the fund-raising process in itself is liberating.

As for SATs, ACTs, and SATII; they are needed especially for competitive colleges. Don’t slack or procrastinate on signing up for them because schools get crowded and you don’t want to have to take them in a school far away. My high school recommends taking the SAT in March, ACT in April, SATII’s in May and SAT again in June! It sounds like a lot but.. You have to do what you have to do. This is for the juniors out there.. Get to work!

Sincerely,

Queen
